I have chosen the articles "The Game within the Games: The Behaviors, Language, and Virtual Norms of RuneScape" and "Video Games and the Hero’s Journey" as they both were related to video games. The purpose of "Video Games and the Hero’s Journey" was to focus on how video games stood as a narrative while comparing it with Joseph Campbell’s definition of the Hero’s Journey. Meanwhile the purpose of "The Game within the Games: The Behaviors, Language, and Virtual Norms of RuneScape" was to focus on how different people communicate in online games whether it is in text form or in-game interaction.
When it comes to the explanation of their findings, "Video Games and the Hero’s Journey" didn't use any images to explain their findings, but rather used particular lines in a higher font in bold to talk about a specific point they are trying to make. "The Game within the Games: The Behaviors, Language, and Virtual Norms of RuneScape" on the other hand used multiple images to analyze communication among players in MMORPGs such as RuneScape. The author included images of the game RuneScape to help the reader understand what the game is about for example an image of multiple players trading to show the common terms used when trading in the game.
The writing style they used was more informative about the games while also comparing it with the main topic they intended to focus on. I found that despite some topics not being too closely related to the main topic, there was always one point that the author could find that connected it to their main focus which I want to apply in my writing.
As for the references, I noticed that most of their references came from other studies conducted previously and articles related to their topic. I believe that I would be using similar sources for my writing as well.
