Reflective Narrative

Brief Reflection:

Before this week’s lessons began, I was with the idea that academic writings should be in a formal tone and that they should be properly formatted, but by the end of the week, I have come to learn that there are some academic works that don't really follow standard English. For example, in "Should Writers Use They Own English?", I saw a type of writing that really shook me as it was written in a slang which was far from formal. It was something new and refreshing to read, as it was not something we would see in any other ordinary academic writing. I also learned that emojis may also be used in some academic writings, although it has some drawbacks such as not being formal, having different meanings to different people, and more, as discussed in the debate that we had last Friday. This has influenced my writing by giving me more freedom in my writing by letting me use my own way of speaking in what I write instead of trying to stick to the societal norms of how academic writing is supposed to be.

Reflect on the Revision Process:

I have not received any feedback on my writing from my peers, but given the chance to correct my own writing, I would say that I could discuss more about how the ad affects or improves the credibility of the brand and the emotional appeals. I could also talk about how the ad may be viewed outside the U.S. Also, when I stated that he would be marrying a girl out of celebration, I could perhaps word it differently to add more clarity to what is happening in the ad. As for the parts that I believe I was able to effectively write, I have described the comedic ad to a decent extent so the readers could understand. I have added images for multimodality, have talked about the use of a Chevy to signify happiness, and have talked about how it affects the different audiences who may come across the advertisement.
