Reflective Narrative

Brief Reflection:

From this week's activities and readings, I learned about 5 major rhetorical concepts: purpose, audience, rhetoric, genre, and genre conventions. I have also found that I am stronger in terms of my purpose as opposed to my genre conventions since I tend to know what I am writing for and who, but I need to work more on my formatting of text to match the genre conventions. I learned more about this in particular after I read "Enabling the Reader" by Kefaya Diab, which taught me a lot about what to add and the purpose of adding different elements in pieces of writing, such as in assignments, emails, and more. My perception of advertisements has changed from viewing them as ordinary videos to now realizing the importance of modality in an advertisement's reception, as the medium of the ad (such as a poster, video, etc.) has a big influence on its impact (such as in its emotional or informative impact).

Reflect on the Revision Process:

After I received feedback from my peer Luiz, I realized I needed to improve my clarity, as I forgot to add information regarding some specific terms I used. I was given the feedback that all my writing and descriptions were overall good, as well as the comparisons I made, but I was lacking in explaining what some terminology I used, such as ethos, pathos, and logos, meant. To fix it, I have revised my writing to add more details about the terms I used to help readers understand my references. Other than that, I believe my writing choices seem to resonate with the readers, and they can follow my descriptions of my content pretty well. I have also been suggested to talk more about the multimodality of the content, such as the videos and text, along with the audio, used to further enhance the point I am trying to make. In my future works, I look forward to adding more about the multimodal elements used and more descriptions of specific terms I use for better clarity in my work.
