Brief Reflection
After this week's activities, I started to get a new perception of memes. What I used to view as merely a form of comedic entertainment now has a much broader meaning of relating to different genres and audiences. I have also learned about the term "exigency," which was not a word I was familiar with before, but I now know that it refers to the meaning that we should hold the readers' interest and give them a reason to read what we wrote, while also making sure that it has specific importance at the time it was made. My current favorite meme is one made by @landerr.exe on Instagram, which is about KSI's new song and Hurricane Milton. With the release of KSI's new song, the whole internet has gone against it, and as shown in the meme, so has Hurricane Milton, which was a current event at the time the meme came out, making it relevant and funny.
Reflect on the Revision Process
Feedback from my peer Luis helped me realize that my writing needs to be more engaging and also requires a bit more description in some lines. I was told my analysis was effective and that I addressed all the required points, including explaining the meme well, but I was given the criticism that I could elaborate more on power dynamics and words I used like "typical tough gamer stereotype." I was also told my analysis engagement was okay, which is something I seek to prevent in my future writings. To fix this, I will try to relate more with the audience to create a sense of connection while also being a bit more elaborate on certain parts of my writing. I was not familiar with the meme my peer chose, although I knew the character in the meme. My initial reaction was that it was something relatable and many people would be likely to do.
