Multimedia Content Analysis #4

The Song: Lento by Rudy Mancuso

Rhetoric Concepts Used in the Song

Purpose:

Lento is a song by Rudy Mancuso with a Latin beat that talks about how some tend to feel low and sad at times and feel like doing nothing in times of hardship, but we should take it slow and easy and relax at such times. As the word "Lento," which means slow in Spanish, implies, it gives a theme of taking things easy in life and enjoying the present.

Multimodality:

The content is a video song where the video shows Rudy (the main singer) as an old man who looks back through his old pictures. Despite being old, he continues to enjoy his life even in his old age.

There is also the use of audio for the song and text for the titles and producers

Audience:

The Latin-type beat in the song may connect more with the Latino community compared to the non-Latin. Also, a younger person might interpret the song as a connection to overcoming the struggles of a fast-paced life, while an older one might reflect on how we may slow down and think of the past, as shown in the video. Pathos (or the emotional appeal) is implied where everyone is encouraged to take time for themselves to avoid overwhelming themselves as shown in the lines "Sometimes I feel so low".

As a well-known content creator and a relatable Latin singer, people may also find him more credible in terms of ethos (the credibility of the singer). Logos (the logic or reasoning side of someone's work) is shown as it is a logical request the singer makes to the audience to relax for their own good.

Rhetorical Genre:

Lento is a pop genre song with a Latin and Samba touch to it, which goes at a constant relaxed tempo to match the meaning of the song. Hence, being of this genre, it matches with other types of songs with a samba base to it.
